Purpose

The vision of the TB Elimination Program is a Texas free of Tuberculosis (TB). The mission of the TB Program is to eliminate TB as a public health threat in PHR 6/5S. The TB Program works to prevent the spread of Tuberculosis in Region 6/5S by providing expert quality care, education, investigation, and treatment for Tuberculosis (TB) Disease and Tuberculosis infection.

The DSHS PHR 6/5 South TB Elimination Program provides TB prevention, care, and treatment for all individuals residing in a 12-county jurisdiction, in Southeast Texas. The cities of Houston, Beaumont, and Port Arthur and the Counties of Fort Bend, Galveston, and Harris also operate TB programs as reporting jurisdictions. We work closely with local health departments, healthcare providers, and community health programs in the 12 Counties to provide TB services, resources, and guidance to reduce the spread and complications of TB within our Region.

In Region 6/5S, the TB program works with local and county health departments to make sure that everyone in the area can access TB services. This includes making sure that clinical services like TB testing and treatment are available to everyone.
