Relative cancer survival is the percent of people alive a certain amount of time (often 5 years) after their cancer diagnosis compared with people in the overall population without cancer. Five-year relative survival rates are calculated by comparing the observed 5-year survival among patients with cancer to the expected 5-year survival rates in a comparable population without cancer.
