NEDSS Training

Introduction

The Texas National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS) is the primary statewide integrated infectious disease surveillance system utilized by public health epidemiologists and surveillance staff across Texas to monitor and respond to most notifiable infectious disease conditions. NEDSS investigations allow us to keep our communities safe by identifying vulnerable populations, pockets of need, and changes in disease epidemiology. The Public Health Informatics Data and Exchange Unit (PHID) recognizes the importance of maintaining accurate disease reporting and safeguarding sensitive health information. That is why they have created courses to ensure proper understanding and implementation of NEDSS protocols, including an introduction to the system and a focus on data confidentiality. These courses are essential for training public health professionals to effectively use NEDSS and are required to gain access to the system.
