Health Information and Statistics
The Medical and Research Librarians have identified different health information and statistical websites. Health statistics are numbers that sum up health-related information. Researchers and experts collect and use health statistics to learn about public health and health care.

- EthnoMed: Cross-Cultural Health Information (University of Washington) provides information about cultural beliefs, medical issues and other topics related to the health care of immigrants to the US, many of whom are refugees.
- Evaluating Health Information (U.S. National Library of Medicine) provides steps on why it's important to evaluate health information for yourself.
- Health Information in Many Languages (Medline PLUS) provides health information in multiple languages, arranged by language. You can also browse this information by health topic.
- Healthy People 2030 (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) sets data-driven national objectives to improve health and well-being over the next decade.
- MedlinePLUS (National Library of Medicine) MedlinePlus is an online health information resource for patients and their families and friends. It is a service of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the world's largest medical library, which is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

- Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR - 'The Voice of the CDC') provides the best medical information of the day to a wide cross-section of users, including medical professionals and students, veterinarians and veterinary students, and consumers.
- MyHealthfinder (U.S. Department of Health and Humans Services) provides trusted information to help people stay healthy.
- National Health Observances (Health.gov) are special days, weeks, or months dedicated to raising awareness about important health topics.
- National Information Center on Health Services Research & Health Care Technology (National Library of Medicine) ensures that the NLM products address the information needs of the health services research workforce.
- Rural Border Health provides information on counties with the most concentrated Hispanic population along the southwestern border of the United States in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.
- 2020 Census (U.S. Census Bureau) Mandated by the U.S. Constitution Article I, Section 2, the U.S. census counts every resident in the United States every 10 years. Each home received an invitation to respond to a short questionnaire—online, by phone, or by mail. This marked the first time that everyone could respond to the census online.
- AHRQ Data (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality) is provided by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the lead Federal agency charged with improving the safety and quality of healthcare for all Americans.
- American Community Survey (U.S. Census Bureau) is the premier U.S. source for detailed population and housing information that helps local officials, community leaders, and businesses understand the changes taking place in their communities.
- Bureau of Labor Statistics (U.S. Department of Labor) measures labor market activity, working conditions, price changes, and productivity in the U.S. economy to support public and private decision making.
- Census State Data Centers (U.S. Census Bureau) is a partnership between the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the island areas and the Census Bureau was created to make data available locally to the public through a network of state agencies, universities, libraries, and regional and local governments.
- Data and Case Reporting (Texas Department of State Health Services) collect and connect data to see trends and use data, surveillance, and statistics to monitor public health.
- Center for Health Statistics data sets and reports are from Health Status of Texas; Texas Health Data; Vital Events Data includes births, deaths, fetal deaths, induced pregnancy termination, marriages, and divorces; Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Surveys; Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance Surveys; Health Professions Licensure Data; Texas Center for Nursing Workforce Studies Surveys; Hospital Surveys; Hospital Discharge Inpatient Data; Hospital and Ambulatory Surgery Center Outpatient Data; and Health Plan Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS).
- Data and Statistics (Texas Health & Human Services Commission) disclose how accurately and efficiently applications are processed so that benefits are received by those who qualify. Those services evaluated are:
- Child Care Licensing Data and Statistics includes reports for day care and residential operations categorized by fiscal year.
- Early Childhood Intervention Data and Reports includes consumer profiles, annual and local performance reports and number of children served by county.
- Healthcare Statistics, which includes enrollment and timeliness data for Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care and Women’s Health
- Induced Terminations of Pregnancy, which includes number of events by age, race/ethnicity, county, procedure, complication, and type of facility
- Medicaid and CHIP Financial Statistical Reports represents self-reported data prepared by health plans.
- Medicaid CHIP Quality and Efficiency Improvement provides a number of data files and reports on quality of care and health plan performance.
- SNAP Statistics, which includes numbers of recipients, enrollment and timeliness data
- TANF Statistics, which includes numbers of recipients, enrollment and timeliness data
- YES Waiver, which includes waiver capacity data and dashboards
- Global Health Observatory (World Health Organization) is WHO's gateway to health-related statistics for its 194 Member States. It provides access to over 1,000 indicators on priority health topics including mortality and burden of diseases, the Millennium Development Goals (child nutrition, child health, maternal and reproductive health, immunization, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, neglected diseases, water and sanitation), non communicable diseases and risk factors, epidemic-prone diseases, health systems, environmental health, violence and injuries, equity among others.
- Medicaid/Medicare Statistics (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) are provided by CMS, which is dedicated to advancing health equity, expanding coverage, and improving health outcomes.
- National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) collects, analyzes, and disseminates timely, relevant, and accurate health data and statistics. Its products and services inform the public and guide program and policy decisions to improve the nation’s health.
- NCIS Health E-Stats are internet-only releases on current and timely health topics that feature highlights from all NCHS data systems. This list of all Health E-Stats that have been released to date is presented in an interactive, searchable, and sortable data tables format.
- National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics serves as the statutory [42 U.S.C. 242k(k)] public advisory body to the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) for health data, statistics, privacy, and national health information policy and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The Committee advises the HHS Secretary, reports regularly to Congress on HIPAA implementation, and serves as a forum for interaction between HHS and interested private sector groups on a range of health data issues.
- National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Reports (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality) presents trends for measures related to access to care, affordable care, care coordination, effective treatment, healthy living, patient safety, and person-centered care. The report presents, in chart form, the latest available findings on quality of and access to healthcare, as well as disparities related to race and ethnicity, income, and other social determinants of health.
- OSHA Statistics & Data (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) is collected through the OSHA Data Initiative (ODI), which is a data collection effort to learn more about private-sector occupational injury and illness rates, for evaluation of trends, and statistics.
- State Health Facts Online (Kaiser Family Foundation) provides more than 800 up-to-date health indicators at the state level can be mapped, ranked, and downloaded.
- Texas Demographic Center produces and disseminates population estimates and projections for Texas, as well as other demographic information. Special emphasis is placed on data that may be useful to policy makers in dealing with issues regarding the demand for State services.
- Vital Statistics of the United States (CDC) present detailed vital statistics data, including natality, mortality, marriage and divorce.
- World Health Statistics (World Health Organization) annual compilation of the most recent available data on health and health-related indicators for its 194 Member States.
