About Us
The Community Health Worker (CHW) or Promotor(a) Training and Certification Program provides leadership to enhance the development and implementation of statewide training and certification standards. It also provides administrative rules for persons who are certified as promotors or community health workers, instructors and sponsoring institutions/training programs.

CHWs Are an Important and Emerging Workforce. Dr. John Hellerstedt, former Commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, discusses the importance of community health workers as an essential asset in Texas health.
How We Serve
The program provides three types of certifications, assists the CHW Advisory Committee and provides resources, reports, articles and research material to assist current and future community health workers. You may receive notices from the program by signing up for email and text updates.

CHW Instructors
Community Health Worker Instructors are individuals approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to provide instruction and training
Training Program
Potential training sites must apply to be an approved DSHS training site. Once approved, they may promote their curricula on the DSHS-CHW website.
