No, the screening guidelines have not changed. DSHS recognizes that healthcare providers may require adjustments to blood lead screening protocols.

Contact your laboratory to confirm they are still collecting and processing blood lead samples. If necessary, explore the availability of other collection locations. If no alternative can be identified, ensure a sample is collected as soon as can be safely scheduled.

LeadCare II devices can still be used for initial capillary blood lead screening.

If the capillary result is 3.5 µg/dL or greater, the result must be confirmed with a venous sample by a public health or reference laboratory.

All blood lead screening results must be reported to BLSB. Reporting instructions are available if needed.
