Test Your Child For Lead
Why should I test?
Lead poisoning is often silent. Children often do not look or act sick. When symptoms do appear, they can be confused with other conditions. Lead poisoning can cause serious health issues. Early testing can protect your child from serious health problems. Learn more about the effects of lead poisoning.
Should I test my child?
All children enrolled in Medicaid/Texas Health Steps must be tested at 12 and 24 months of age, or at any age after 12 months and up to 6 years if never tested for lead.
In addition, DSHS recommends testing children who reside in a targeted zip code or are at risk for lead exposure for another reason. Please visit our Childhood Blood Lead Screening Guidelines to learn more.
