National Child Passenger Safety Week

September 20-26, 2020

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that children riding in vehicles were in crashes every 32 seconds in 2018. To prevent injury or death in a vehicle, children should ride in a proper car seat, booster seat, or use a seat belt.

Car seat checkup events are happening across the US during National Child Passenger Safety Week. These events educate parents and caregivers about best practices for keeping children safe. This year, because of COVID-19, some education and outreach efforts have changed. Many events are being held virtually but not all. Please help ensure children are secure! They need a car seat that is appropriate for their age, height, and weight.

How To Observe Child Passenger Safety Week
1. Get your car seat checked by a certified technician
Get your vehicle and car seats checked to ensure proper use. Find a location near you. Look for events happening in Texas.

2. Share about Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week on social media
Spread the word. Share information with a friend and family member. Refer them to free safety materials. Help generate awareness about child passenger safety in your community.

3. Donate a car seat
Consider donating a new car seat to a local charity or organization that serves families in need.

For the health and safety of our car seat distribution partners and the communities they serve, we have asked our car seat programs to temporarily suspend distribution program activities. This includes car seat distribution and the processing of requests for Safe Riders’ Educational Materials.  We understand the ongoing need for assistance and apologize for the inconvenience. Please check back here for program updates. The Safe Riders team remains actively involved in ensuring the safety of your child and promoting child passenger safety. Please email us at or leave a voice message at 1-800-252-8255 to address any questions or concerns you may have.
