Test Description | The Direct Microscopic Somatic Cell Count is the examination of milk to determine the concentration of somatic cells (or leukocytes). The number of somatic cells in raw milk indicates the extent of mastitis or abnormal milk secretions. Stained cells are observed microscopically and cells meeting specific criteria are counted. |
