HMO Recognition Program
In
2015, the Heart Disease and Stroke Program with support from the Texas Council
on Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke (Council) started the HMO Recognition
Program to encourage improvements in cardiac measures.
Health
Plans are recognized for meeting or exceeding the national average on
Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Informational Set (HEDIS) performance
measures for controlling high blood pressure and the persistent use of
beta-blocker treatment after a heart attack. The
Guide to Texas HMO Quality, an annual report on HMO Quality Measures, is used
to select HMOs for meeting performance measures.

Texas Ramp
Project Recognition
At the Council Meeting on May 24, 2017, the
Council recognized the Texas Ramp Project for its work in building ramps for
Texans in need across the state. The Texas Ramp
Project, a volunteer-staffed, 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, non-denominational,
non-governmental organization, builds wheelchair ramps for disabled or elderly
people in need.
Since 1985, the Texas Ramp Project has built 12,717 ramps and volunteers
have spent over 382,000 hours building these ramps. To learn more
