In 1999, Sunset legislation authorized the establishment of the Governor’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Trauma Advisory Council (GETAC) to advise and make recommendations on the development and implementation of Texas Emergency Healthcare System rules. The Governor appoints the fifteen-member council. 

A unified, comprehensive, and effective Emergency Healthcare System.

To promote, develop, and advance an accountable, patient-centered Trauma and Emergency Healthcare System.

Governor Abbott Appoints Martinez to the Advisory Council on Emergency Medical Services and Trauma

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Ruben A. Martinez to the Advisory Council on Emergency Medical Services and Trauma, known as GETAC, to a term set to expire on January 1, 2022. The council recommends changes to the EMS/Trauma System in order to ensure that the community receives comprehensive and efficient emergency care.

  • Open Meetings Act and Public Information Act Training
    Please be aware that Senate Bill 286 of the 79th Texas Legislature requires all members of independent boards, committees, or councils (including GETAC), who were appointed on or after January 1, 2006, to complete training in the requirements of the Open Meetings Act and the Public Information Act,  within 90 days of their appoint  ments: 
    Texas Open Government Trainings:
    Please complete the two sessions of training and forward copies of their certificates to the DSHS Office of EMS\Trauma Systems via facsimile (512-834-6736) or electronically to GETAC committee members who have been re-appointed and already have copies of the two training certificates on file with DSHS are not required to take the training again. Failure to complete this requirement will prevent you from participating in the Committee meetings as a member of the Committee.
  • GETAC Committee Report Form
    Committee chairs should complete this template before reporting to the GETAC Council.  Please begin your committee report on slide 2, using additional slides as needed; give brief, concise descriptions of committee discussion items needing council guidance, items referred to GETAC for future action, and any applicable announcements.   

    Please submit completed report forms to the GETAC Council chair and vice-chair no later than 5:00pm the day before the GETAC Council meets. Occasionally, committees may meet on the same day the GETAC Council meets.  This sometimes occurs in November when GETAC is held in conjunction with the annual Texas EMS Conference.  For committees meeting on these days, please submit a completed report form to the GETAC Council chair and vice-chair as soon as possible.
