Dr. Prema Murali Duraisami

Prema Murali Duraisami, MD

Throughout Prema’s PMY-1 year, she worked on completing her Master’s in Public Health at UTHealth Science Center at Houston, Austin Campus. She will be graduating with her MPH in December. During her PMY-2 year, in addition to working on her MPH, she worked with the Environmental Surveillance and Toxicology Branch to create an agency report on analyzing suicide with cleaning products and hand sanitizer from March – June 2020. Prema also has been working on COVID-19 contact investigations and providing support to the agency on their COVID-19 response. She recently completed a rotation at UT Tyler focused in Occupational Medicine.

Dr. Terata Kanu

Terata Kanu, MD, MPH, MBA

Terata graduated with his MPH last December and continued to take coursework to enhance his learning. In his PMY-2 year, Terata has been working on COVID-19 contact investigations and providing support to TX DSHS on their COVID-19 response. He created an agency report with the Environmental Surveillance and Toxicology Branch on Silicosis hospitalizations in Texas and worked with the DSHS Health Equity Policy Analyst to research and analyze COVID-19’s impact on Health equity.

Dr. Lana Yamba

Lana Yamba, MD, MPH, CCRC

Medical School: University Kongo, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

Internship: Transitional Year Program at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, TX

Professional Interests: Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, STD and HIV Surveillance, Cancer Prevention, and Maternal and Child Health

Recent Activities: Working as Case Investigator for the DSHS COVID-19 Contact Tracing Initiative. Conducted a study to examine the 2019 access and utilization of HPV vaccine in adolescents in the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Region 11 Harlingen and TVFC clinics along the South Texas Border Counties.

Dr. Muhammad Safwatullah

Muhammad Safwatullah, MD

Medical School: Sindh Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan

Internship: Hemet Global Medical Center, Hemet, CA

Professional Interests: Chronic disease prevention in underserved populations through Lifestyle modification, addiction medicine, clinical informatics, communicable disease surveillance.
