Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Program - Public Health Region 2/3
The Public Health Region 2/3 Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response (PHEPR) team provides public health leadership and improves the health and well-being of Texas. This is accomplished by promoting health, preventing disease and injury, protecting, and effectively responding to all types of health emergencies, including bioterrorism, infectious disease outbreaks, and natural disasters.
DSHS plays an important role in emergency preparedness and response during times of disaster. Threats to the public’s health may come from a variety of sources, including pandemics, natural and man-made disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, biological terrorism, and radiological events. We ensure critical response efforts are coordinated and standardized via networking and centralizing resources, as well as planning with local jurisdictions and the state’s public and private-sector healthcare systems across the state.
