WHAT:  2012 Texas Red Ribbon Rally

WHEN:  Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012

    11 – 11:30 a.m.  Press interview opportunities

    11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  Red Ribbon Rally

    12:30 – 1:30 p.m.  Student mock legislative session

WHERE:  Texas State Capitol, South Steps

DETAILS:  More than 1,200 fifth-graders from Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio will gather at the State Capitol to send the message that “Drugs Don’t Make Sense,” the theme of this year’s rally. At 12:30 p.m. the students will convene a mock legislative session in the Texas House and Senate chambers to pass resolutions targeting drug and alcohol abuse. The rally kicks off Red Ribbon Week, which will be observed next week. Red Ribbon Week is an anti-drug awareness campaign that reaches millions of students nationwide.

VISUALS:  Performances by the Texas Children’s Choir, cop rapper POLICE ICE, and HYPE, a San Antonio youth troupe that uses dance to encourage teens to stay drug and alcohol free. Students passing resolutions in a mock legislative session.
