With Tropical Storm Don tracking toward the Texas coast, DSHS urges people to review their emergency plans. Don is the first named storm of the hurricane season to affect Texas and serves as a reminder that families, businesses and communities should take steps to be prepared for a disaster.
Go to TexasPrepares.org for instructions on how to create a plan, details about building an emergency kit, and other resources for families and businesses. The site also contains information about hurricanes and other life-threatening hazards that can affect Texas.
Additionally, the site features Surviving Disaster: How Texans Prepare, a documentary series with real-life stories that show how making preparations can make a difference.
Disaster can strike at any time. Whether it’s a tropical storm, tornado, wildfire, flood or a manmade crisis, being prepared can save lives and make it easier to recover once the disaster is over. Take the time to make a plan and be ready for future emergencies.
