News Release
September 24, 2007

The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) today confirmed that a Lubbock County man died from primary amebic meningoencephalitis, or PAM, after participating in a recreational water activity in Lake LBJ in August.

DSHS made the determination after receiving positive confirmatory test results from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention earlier today.

Lubbock officials announced on Sept. 7 that the man had died from the amebic infection, but DSHS chose to wait on the additional test results before making its final determination.
