Austin Event Offers Opportunity to Create Family Emergency Plans

Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) “Ready or Not? Have A Plan” Austin event. This interactive educational tour offers people a chance to create family emergency plans and learn about emergency preparedness in their communities. The tour, which includes 13 stops between Oct. 29 and Nov. 14, is part of the “Ready or Not? Have a Plan” campaign to be launched by DSHS Oct. 29 to encourage Texans to prepare for disasters.


10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 29
Media availability 10:30 a.m. including interviews and visuals of the Plan Van, outdoor tent, sample emergency kit, other emergency planning supplies and computer kiosks where people can build their personalized plans.


Wal-Mart parking lot, 710 E. Ben White Blvd., Austin.


Representatives of DSHS, Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services, Governor's Division of Emergency Management, American Red Cross, 2-1-1 and other public health and emergency response agencies.


Disasters can happen anywhere, at any time in Texas. The time to plan is now, before a disaster hits.
