The purpose of the committee is to recommend rules and examinations for the approval of the board.

The committee shall advise the board concerning rules to implement standards adopted under the Act relating to the regulation of persons performing radiologic procedures.

The committee shall carry out any other tasks given to the committee by the board.

Review and duration. By November 1, 2007, the board will initiate and complete a review of the committee to determine whether the committee should be continued, consolidated with another committee, or abolished. If the committee is not continued or consolidated, the committee shall be abolished on that date.

The committee shall be composed of eleven members appointed by the board. The composition of the committee shall include:

four consumers; one licensed physician who is a radiologist; one licensed medical physicist or a hospital administrator; one certified medical radiologic technologist whose primary practice is in diagnostic radiography; one certified medical radiologic technologist whose primary practice is in nuclear medicine technology; one certified medical radiologic technologist whose primary practice is in radiation therapy; one licensed physician who has experience in radiologic procedures and who practices in a rural community or at a site serving a medically underserved population in Texas as defined in the Medical Practice Act, Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 152; and one registered nurse or certified physician assistant who has experience in radiologic procedures and who practices in a rural community or at a site serving a medically underserved population in Texas as defined in the Medical Practice Act, Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 152.

The term of office of each member shall be six years. Members shall serve after expiration of their term until a replacement is appointed.

Members shall be appointed for staggered terms so that the terms of three members will expire on January 1 of each odd-numbered year.

If a vacancy occurs, a person shall be appointed to serve the unexpired portion of that term.
